Bonerama with Mingro Fishtrap & Monophonics

Saturday, June 23

Combining sounds of vintage funk, classic rock, and improvision, Bonerama takes the classic New Orleans brass funk music and makes it its own breed of sound. Bonerama has been recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as, “the ultimate in brass balls” (Rolling Stone, 2005). They have also been noted for, “crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls” (Rolling Stone, 2007).

Also performing this evening, Mingo Fishtrap, holds different musical characteristics. As noted by David Lynch of the Austin Chronicle, Mingo Fishtrap is, “Tight n’ punchy horns, deep rhythms, restless melodies, and emotive singing had garnered Mingo justified respect as a live powerhouse.”

Mingo hones in on soul, R&B, and funk music to get the crowds dancing for hours. Their influence include Motown, Sly and the Family Stone, and Otis Redding.

Psychedelic soul and heavy funk band, Monophonics, consider themselces a sub-genre of soul music with mixes of soul and psychedelic rock. Staking their claim in the Bay Area of San Francisco, the Monophonics have toured all around California up to Motown and down to Louisiana and now making their way to the Big Apple.
