6th Annual Nolafunk.com Mardi Gras Ball
Saturday, Feb 18- Sunday, Feb 19, 2012
Mardi Gras. The mere mention of these two words convey thoughts of wild celebrations, beads flying through the air, feathered hats, free-spirited dancing and a lot of booze and smiles. Nolafunk.com will help create this scene with your help. We’ll provide you with masks, hats, white cloths and beads. Lots and lots of BEADS! So bring your Mardi Gras outfits and your will to dance. The 6th Annual Mardi Gras Ball might be the best yet.
BONERAMA
Even in a city that doesn’t play by the rules, New Orleans’ Bonerama is something different. They can evoke vintage funk, classic rock and free improvisation in the same set; maybe even the same song. Bonerama has been repeatedly recognized by Rolling Stone, hailed as “the ultimate in brass balls” and praised for their “…crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls.”
KERMIT RUFFINS & THE BBQ SWINGERS
New Orleans is the only place on the planet that could have produced native son Kermit Ruffins. Whether he's blowing trumpet on a Louis Armstrong classic or one of his own hot numbers, Ruffins embraces the tune with the true spirit of the city. Ruffins' music, like New Orleans itself, swings hard with a big heart as it remembers tradition and the importance of good-timin’ fun.
Past Mardi Gras Ball performers include Dr. John, Anders Osborne, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Bonerama, Eric Lindell, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Soul Rebels Brass Band and Tab Benoit.

It’s been said that the musicians of New Orleans are all members of one gigantic band that breaks up into smaller groups on a nightly basis. If this were really the case, The New Orleans Suspects would be in a class all their own. The group is comprised of musicians with experience and versatility that rival any other band that the city has ever produced.

VOW is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 2003 by Grammy®-nominated Blues musician Tab Benoit. By utilizing the power of music as a platform to educate the public about the crises in southern Louisiana, VOW has been able to reach a vast number of people all over the world, setting a high standard for other wetlands organizations. Benoit also formed the VOW All-Stars, a collaboration of some of Louisiana’s music elite. Joining Benoit are Cyril Neville of the world-famous Neville Brothers, the critically acclaimed Anders Osborne, and drumming legend Johnny Vidacovich. Rounding out the group are harmonica guru Johnny Sansone, extraordinary fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux, and Mardi Gras Indian Big Chief Monk Boudreaux.
Benoit has long been an advocate for and a powerful raconteur of Louisiana’s disappearing coast and wetlands. Box of Pictures is an extension of the on-going mission to bring national attention and action to protect and preserve Louisiana’s wetlands for future generations. The album is riddled with emotion and the harsh realities experienced in the months following hurricane Katrina. The storm was a culmination of the erosion plaguing Louisiana’s wetlands, leaving southern Louisiana’s communities more vulnerable and exposed to future damage. Box of Pictures is an illustration of Louisiana’s resilience, a love story of survival, hope, and inspiration. It is also a message that attaining justice is a daily battle, and that saving and preserving New Orleans, Louisiana’s wetlands and culture are the major challenges of this lifetime.
The VOW All-Stars is a crash course in south Louisiana's rich musical history. An eclectic mix of soulful blues, New Orleans funk, hoodoo rhythms, Cajun Zydeco, and gritty rock-n-roll, the band takes listeners through every genre that has made southern Louisiana special. While theVOW All-Stars are musicians by trade, the have become the ambassadors of Louisiana’s fight to protect and preserve a national treasure and a vital part of the U.S.
